Human beings have an interesting way of influencing one another. We’re social animals, and the mere attitudes with which we regard each other highly affect not only our interactions but also our very own well-being and what we think of ourselves. Oftentimes this collective consciousness of sorts can end up doing harm (intentionally or not) to certain groups. Racism, for example, boils down to how some people regard a portion of society. Those prejudices then carry into our social systems and become institutionalized.
